Driver & Monitor Background Screening Process
As a leading alternative student transportation provider, safety is our #1 priority. GoKart Transportation holds all drivers, monitors, and employees to the GoKart Safety Standard, the highest safety standard in the industry. Additionally, all trips we service adhere to statutory, regulatory, and school district transportation requirements to ensure vulnerable students get to and from school safely.
To meet the GoKart Safety Standard, GoKart drivers must pass up to 18 screening requirements before becoming GoKart Safety Certified and eligible to drive a single student. This includes:
- Hold a valid driver’s license for an appropriate class of vehicle with proof of age 21 years +
- Pass a national, state, and county background check
- Enroll in a drug and alcohol consortium for pre-employment, post-accident, reasonable suspicion, and random testing
- Provide proof of current personal liability insurance
- Complete driver education
The background check for GoKart Transportation drivers and monitors includes a:
- Criminal background check with continuous monitoring, which includes:
- Social Security Trace
- 7-year felony search in all counties identified in SSN Trace
- 7-year misdemeanor search in all counties identified in SSN Trace
- National Criminal Database Search
- DOJ Sex Offender Registry Search
- Motor vehicle report review with continuous monitoring
*with continuous monitoring of Motor Vehicle Reports and criminal screening
*with a monthly continuous monitoring program collecting a random pool of drivers’ Motor Vehicle Reports and criminal records
Criminal Record Review Policy
Applicants with a conviction record that includes any of the following offenses may be disqualified from driving or monitoring for GoKart Transportation.
Felonies / Indictable Offenses
Crimes typically punishable by imprisonment for more than one year or by death.
- Alcohol (DUI – Alcohol – 3rd Offense; Blood Alcohol Level .10% with Injury/Death)
- Animals (Animal Fights; Killing Deer without Valid Tag)
- Conspiracy
- Drugs – excluding marijuana (Possession; DUI – Drugs – 3rd Offense)
- Drugs – excluding marijuana (Trafficking; Intent to Distribute)
- Explosives
- Failures / Contempt (Ex-Felon Fail to Change Address; Flagrant Non-Support)
- Gaming (Accept a Wager; Keeping a Gambling House)
- Harassment (Aggravated Stalking; Criminal Threats)
- Interference / Evade (Aid and Abet; Speed to Elude Arrest; Coercion)
- Licensing (Fail to Register as Telephone Salesperson; Possess Firearm without License)
- Marijuana (Possess for Sale Marijuana; Possession of Cannabis; DUI – Marijuana – Multiple Offenses)
- Neglect / Cruelty / Endangerment (Cruelty to a Juvenile; Wanton Endangerment – 1st Degree)
- Property Damage (Vandalism over $500; Malicious Destruction of Property; Arson)
- Public Disturbance (Pandering; Unlawful Dealing in Hazardous Waste)
- Sex Crimes (Rape; Aggravated Sexual Battery)
- Statutory Rape
- Theft / Fraud (Grand Theft; Grand Larceny; Identity Theft; Welfare Fraud)
- Traffic (Hit and Run with Injury/Death; Driving into Oncoming Traffic)
- Trespassing (Criminal Trespass; Burglary)
- Violence (Assault – Deadly Weapon; Great Bodily Injury; Murder)
- Weapons (Possession of Illegal Firearm; Transporting/Selling Illegal Firearm)

- Harassment (Threatening Phone Calls; Workplace Harassment)
- Interference / Evade (Resist/Obstruct Peace Officer; Failure to Obey Officer)
- Licensing (Peddling without a License; Business License Required)

- Neglect / Cruelty / Endangerment (Child Abuse/Neglect; Causes Elderly Abuse)
